New Record for Westcliff Volleyball

Westcliff Women's Volleyball had two matches last weekend against Pacific Union and UC Merced.

Warriors put up a fight against Pacific Union taking them to 5 sets. Westcliff fell to the Pioneers 3-2 and to UC Merced 3-0.

There was a highlight during this weekend. As a team they were able to break a program record that stood for two years. Behind the service line as a team were able to grab 18 Service Aces against Pacific Union.

Faith Alvior and Samantha Carelock led the team with 5 Service Aces a piece. Westcliff will be back on the court for their divisional series on Friday against La Sierra and Providence Christian.

Coaches' Notes of the matches against Pacific Union and UC Merced

Sam Carelock earns player of the match honors in both matches against Pacific Union and UC Merced.

"Pacific Union was digging a lot. Ella and Elisa moved Samm around to different attacking zones which opened up productivity.  It felt great to compete and there made progress in terms of finding a way to sustain success.

Again, Pacific Union played excellent defense.  99 digs in the first four sets!  They had awesome moments of excitement that led to a good back and forth competition. great competition, great battle.

UC Merced seemed to really have no answer at times to defend against Samm.  She was consistent throughout the match putting the ball down. We were clicking on all cylinders forcing them into a timeout at 8-1 in set 1. 

As expected from a top team in the conference, they increased their service pressure and made the adjustments they needed to put some pressure on us. Again, UC Merced's middles were amazing.
