Warriors Coming Together at the Right Time
By Francisco Claudio
They vowed to get stronger after the first game of the season.
The Westcliff women's volleyball team has come a long way and grown a lot through the challenges this season has thrown at them.
Now the Warriors are on a two-game winning streak after defeating the Simpson University Red Hawks in four sets: 25-21, 13-25, 25-14, 25-19.
Westcliff stands with an overall record of 6-11 and a conference record of 6-9.
They are currently in the eighth spot in the Cal Pac Conference standings but are only one win away from being tied for the 6th spot.
The Warriors won the first set which was a close battle between both teams.
But the second set was dominated by the Red Hawks 25-13.
The Warriors responded well to the adversity and took the remaining two sets to seal the deal.
Head Coach Andy Cole emphasized that having played this team before and soaking up that experience really paid off tonight.
"Having played these teams on the road has helped. A lot of the frustrations that they had internally we've talked about. Everyones going to make mistakes but we just have to come together and use that frustration and energy towards the other side."
Leading the way for both teams in kills was Westcliff's Faith Webb with 14 and 15 digs.
Webb has really stepped up the last couple of games and her leadership and veteran presence has been a boost for the team.
Dana Manu Was strong on offense with nine kills and solid on the defensive end with 12 digs.
Sam Lister had a game-high 36 assists and added 18 digs as well.
Abbey Beckwith was timely as always with her nine kills and Brooke Scheidle came up with a huge solo block during a crucial moment in the match.
Things are clicking at the right time for the Warriors who need to continue adding wins in order to give themselves a shot to land a playoff spot.
Up Next: The Warriors will finish this homestand with a night game against Pacific Union on Saturday at 8PM.
