Important Games in the Horizon After ERAU Loss
By Francisco Claudio
The Westcliff women's volleyball team have entered an important stretch in their season as they look for a chance to slip into the Cal Pac postseason tournament.
The Warriors are struggling to get wins at the moment as they have lost four in a row.
On Saturday the Warriors finished off their current road trip with a match against Embry-Riddle that was another four-set battle that didn't go Westcliff's way. 20-25, 19-25, 25-23, 19-25.
"Quite a bit of adversity and the team displayed that they have the need to be gritty," said head coach Andy Cole. "Excellent communication top down from the captains that was inclusive and effective.
"A need for intensity that was by some estimation at an extreme on the opposing side was lacking. We will practice today to prepare for some must win matches."
With an overall record of 4-11 and a conference record of 4-9, the Warriors are sitting in the eight spot.
Only the top six spots make it to the Cal Pac Conference Tournament so the Warriors will need to overcome and surpass the two teams ahead of them.
Those teams are Simpson and Providence Christian which Westcliff will play one more time each this season.
But the Warriors will have to do better than winning against those teams. They need to string together a winning streak to try and get to .500 and give themselves a legit chance.
The next three games that will be played at home could determine the Warriors postseason chances.
They will play UC Merced, Simpson, and Pacific Union starting this Thursday-Saturday.
