Warriors Win First Set, But Fall to Park in 4
By Francisco Claudio
The Westcliff women's volleyball team is made up of hard working athletes who continue to fight until the last point is decided.
The results haven't always gone the Warriors way but the heart and effort that the team displays on the court cannot be questioned.
On Friday the team fell to Park-Gilbert in four sets: 25-11, 19-25, 22-25, 18-25.
Westcliff took the first set with ease after a strong start that saw them go up 10-5.
Everything was clicking for the Warriors who took the first set and early control of the match.
But Park-Gilbert did not back down and responded in the second set by taking the lead early on and never looking back.
The Warriors made a late attempt to get back into the set with a 9-2 run to close in 19-23.
But it was too much to ask of Westcliff, as the match was tied one set apiece.
Park went on to take the third and fourth set in another hard fought match in which the Warriors could have tasted victory in certain moments.
"The first set was easy, almost too easy," said head coach Andy Cole. "They brought back energy and changed. We changed when we needed to be steady and consistent. Although the sets ended in loss we kept going back for more and battling.
"Great representation of being a Warrior. Our character in the 5Cs should be highlighted tonight."
Samantha Lister continues to dominate the numbers for the Warriors as she recorded 16 kills, 14 assists, and 12 digs.
The next stretch of games will be important for the Warriors because they don't want to accumulate too many losses if they want to make a push for the conference postseason.
Up Next: The Warriors finish off this road trip at Embry-Riddle with a start time of 6:00PM.
