WU Keeps Postseason Hopes Alive With Win
On Thursday night, the Westcliff women's basketball team kept their postseason hopes alive with a crucial win over Simpson University, 57-53.
But the Warriors know the job isn't over as they will need to win their last game against UC Merced to keep that final sixth spot which will qualify them for the playoffs.
Like she has all season long, Eva Taylor came up clutch for the Warriors again with 18 huge points. Taylor could not miss from the field; she shot 80% and was 2-for-3 from beyond the arc.
She also recorded four rebounds and three steals.
Taylor's game carried over from the previous game when she also came up clutch for the Warriors and hit the three-pointer that extended the game to double overtime.
Aside from the second quarter where Westcliff had some offensive struggles, they were able to win the other three quarters and held a slight lead for the majority.
Senior Valissa Millhouse did her part and had a stat line of 16 points, five rebounds, and five assists.
Westcliff was able to keep their composure in the fourth quarter and shot 60% from the field.
Now, Westcliff finds itself in a win-or-go-home situation against its opponent, UC Merced.
On Saturday, the winner of that game will book the final spot of the postseason tournament and the other will have their season come to an end.
In their first game against UC Merced, the Warriors lost 74-60. This loss was followed by a four-game winning streak for WU.
After some heartbreaking losses, Westcliff is looking to end the season on a high note and give themselves another shot at a run in the postseason.
Saturday's game will take place in the Jordan Lawley Facility and will have a start time of 4 p.m.
