The Westcliff softball team dropped their doubleheader against Vanguard University 4-1 and 6-4.
It's still early in the season for the Warriors as they try to find their rhythm against tough opponents in preparation for when the conference schedule starts.
In the first game, the Warriors continued to struggle with making contact with the bat, which has been an ongoing issue early in the season.
The Warriors were only able to get three hits against the Lions' starting pitcher. On the other side, Vanguard scored four runs on nine hits.
Lauren Coppla and Airilin Ramirez continue to be a bright spot for the Warriors on the offensive end as they have been some of the more consistent players this season.
Coppla went (1-for-3) while A. Ramirez was (1-for-2) with one run.
Starting pitcher Emily Rosas threw for five innings and recorded eight strikeouts. She allowed six hits and three runs.
The energy was better in the second game as the Warriors looked more like the team we're used to seeing.
The Lions scored two runs in the top of the first but Westcliff responded by getting one back to close out the first inning.
In the bottom of the third the Warriors' Alexyia Reyes doubled to right center which brought in A. Ramirez to even up the score 2-2.
But the Lions got back on top in the top of the fifth as they managed to score three runs.
The Warriors responded again with two runs in the bottom of the fifth but that was as far as they were able to go.
WU was able to make more contact with the bat as they recorded eight hits which resulted in four runs.
With the two losses, their record has fallen to (3-7) with two weeks of play left before the start of the conference games
"We're playing great teams right now and the team is learning still how to strive and play together," shared head coach Brandon Wallace after the games. "This was a good lesson for us as we get ready for the conference in a couple of weeks. Just keep battling and I give we'll be fine when it comes to conference."
Up next, the Warriors will be back on the field on Friday for a doubleheader against Chapman, with a start time of 3:00 p.m.
