Warriors Cruise Behind Obeid's Hat Trick
By Francisco Claudio
It was another dominant performance by the Westcliff men's soccer team as they hosted the Cal Maritime Keelhaulers on Sunday with a final score of 8-0
The Warriors have been on a roll, especially after suffering their first loss a couple of games back.
Since then, Westcliff has been focused and eyeing that first-place finish to the Cal Pac Conference standings.
On Sunday they showed out and the audience was able to witness what a complete roster they have this year and all the talented players on it.
Most of the magic happened in the second half as the Warriors finished the first up 2-0.
Then in the second half the relentless and meticulous offense from the Warriors proved too much for the Keelhaulers.
The scoring for the Warriors was as follows:
Quentin Hornung scored in the 25th minute with the assists from John Adekunle.
Lucas Rosell scored in the 40th minute with assists from Hornung and Obeid.
Obeid scored in the 46th minute with an assist from Jordan Di Lonardo.
Adekunle scored in the 49th minute with assists from Hornung and Di Lonardo.
Obeid scored his second and third goals with less than two minutes of separation.
The second came from an Adekunle pass.
Vincenzo Centrella got on the scoreboard in the 65th minute.
The game's final goal was scored in the 73rd minute by Mamadou Diaby, with assists from Gledi Doda and Diego Montes.
Head Coach Randy Dodge spoke with us after the game: "Today was kind of a tough game for us seeing that we weren't able to train between Friday's game and now. But we responded after the first half and got back to the standard that we wanted.
"It's game by game right now and it's going to be a fight to the finish for this championship, and that's our goal."
After the result, the Warriors find themselves No.1 in the standings and if they play their cards right, can see a path where they finish in that spot.
Hornung continues to lead the way in goals with 10 and Di Lonardo is also leading the way with 12 assists.
Up Next: The Warriors will hit the road next Thursday to play against USK for an early game at 10AM.
