Warriors Win Streak Snapped Against BenU
The Westcliff men's basketball team had not lost a game in one month entering Saturday's game against Benedictine.
They were on an eight-game winning streak after defeating some of the best teams in the Cal Pac conference.
But Saturday's game became just another bump in the road for the defending champs as they lost 81-76.
The Warriors were down after the first half 42-33 after struggling from the floor as they shot 33% compared to 59% from the Redhawks.
But they showed a valiant effort in the second half outscoring the home team 43-39, and holding the Redhawks scoreless in the final four minutes of the ball game.
Micaiah Hankins had a stand-out performance as he went for a career-high 34 points, with five assists, and three steals.
Hankins shot 50% from beyond the arc with half of his points coming from a long distance.
Double-double machine John Duff got back to his usual numbers of 11 points and 16 rebounds.
With the loss, the Warriors record is now (12-9, Cal Pac 11-5) as they stay with a firm grasp of the third spot in the standings.
Three of the fourth games left are against opponents that are below them with the only one that is not is UC Merced, on the final game of the season.
It's a crucial time for the team, as they try to maintain their focus and remain diligent in their preparations leading up to the postseason.
Up next, they will have their final road game of the regular season as they visit Embry-Riddle on Thursday, February 15th.
