Bio

Coach David Shermet comes to Westcliff University with a tremendous baseball background. While attending Cypress High School, he was a first team All-County selection and played in the All-County All Star game his senior year. He earned a scholarship to the University of Arizona and was part of the 1986 National Championship team and graduated as the career home run leader. He still appears in many career leading categories at the U of A and played in Taiwan representing the United States in tournaments there. After playing one season in the Alaska League and two seasons in the Cape Cod League, he was drafted in the 12th round by the Houston Astros organization.

From 2017 - 2019 Coach Shermet was the outfielders coach and worked with the hitters at Irvine Valley College. In February 2019, he was hired as the first Head Coach at Westcliff University in Irvine and started the program from the ground up. Now in his fourth year at the helm, signature wins over division two Concordia University Irvine and then defending division three National Champion Chapman University put the program on the college baseball map.

Coach Shermet is an enormous sports fan, lives in Irvine, looking forward to continuing building the program to national prominence and honored to work for such a prestigious university as Westcliff.
