Successful Road Trip as Warriors Extend Winning Streak
Westcliff men's basketball team was on a three-game winning streak as they visited Embry-Riddle on Sunday evening.
It was the longest streak of the season for the Warriors as they started to play the brand of basketball that they hope takes them deep into the playoffs.
After Sunday's game, the Warriors winning streak would continue as they got the win, 77-63.
They got off to a good start which has been a pattern at the beginning of each half.
With 12:46 to play in the first half, the Warriors had comfortably extended their lead to 18-3.
Head Coach Jerred Cook shared his thoughts: "A team effort all the way around. We had a game plan and we stuck to it."
After a great start to the game, the Warriors were able to stick to the game plan and finished the first half up 40-28.
The second half started much the same as Westcliff landed the early blow and extended their lead to 20 points.
They were never in danger of losing control of the game as they finished the job to go perfect on the road trip.
"They average close to nine three-pointers a game and we wanted to be there on the catch," said Cook. "We wanted to make it difficult for them on the defensive and offensive end."
"Every time we executed our offense we got great looks."
The Warriors have slowly been climbing in the standings and they now have an overall record of (7-5) and a conference record of (6-3).
They currently sit in the fourth spot of the Cal Pac Conference and are only one game away from reaching the second spot.
It was a total team effort as almost all the starters scored in double digits.
Josh Harrison scored 15 points, grabbed two rebounds, two assists, and had three steals.
Gary Harris had 14 points and five rebounds while staying perfect from the free-throw line.
Cap Uzan had 10 points, six assists, and two steals. He also made a couple of big three-pointers in the game.
Abdul Abdullah had another double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
After a successful road trip, the Warriors look like they are poised to have a strong second half to the season.
They will come back home in hopes of continuing the winning streak when they host Saint Katherine next Saturday, Jan. 21.
The tip-off will be at 7:30 PM.
